Sawtooth Productions in association with Laughing Stock will present a free play reading of Conor McPherson’s Dublin Carol. Running time will be 80 minutes and complimentary wine and cookies will be served.
The cast of local actors features Andrew Alburger, Kagen Albright and Charlotte Hemmings. Jon Kane will direct the reading.
McPherson is one of Ireland’s great playwrights and he has woven a beautifully moving tale of redemption set on Christmas Eve in Dublin, Ireland. It is also a devastating character study of an alcoholic at the end of his line.
“Can a play be both brutal and tender, as gentle as it is harsh? It can if the author is the extraordinary Conor McPherson, the young Irishman best known for “The Weir,” seen on Broadway several seasons back. Such paradoxes seem utterly natural when describing McPherson’s painfully beautiful “Dublin Carol”, a small treasure of a production. Directed with infinite grace and subtlety by the author himself “Dublin Carol” deserves to find in New York the acclaim that has, to a degree, eluded it in previous stagings in London and Dublin. It is, in its quiet way, a stunning piece of work, and an unexpected highlight of the theater season.” – Variety
